Marie on Harmony of the Seas

Wednesday 08 June 2016

“Caribbean's 'Harmony of the Seas' set sail on its inaugural cruise May 20th and Marie (Grenham Travel) was a guest on board. To summarise it in a word, Marie said the experience was simply “Spectacular”

The innovative ship designs combined with dynamic technological strides have revolutionised the Cruise holiday. Harmony of the Seas, the newest and largest ship in the world is testament to this and most certainly has the WOW! Factor. It redefines hollidays with its line-up of first at sea innovations; thrilling on-board activities and experiences; while enticing guests to explore and visit inspiring destinations across the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.

Marie gives further insights of her cruise on Harmony of the Seas; The ship is built on the same platform as Royal Caribbean's giant Oasis and Allure of the Seas, but it is larger by nearly 1,700 tons and offers a number of new features. Among them: Ultimate Abyss, which may well be one of the most thrilling attractions ever conceived for a cruise ship. Comprised of two swirling slides, plunging courageous adrenaline seekers 10 stories i.e. 100 foot form deck 16 to deck 6. Not for the faint hearted! -  but those that did try it  found it exhilarating.

What sets Harmony of the Seas apart is the variety of what’s on offer. The ship has a shopping district, 23 pools, a casino, gym, spa, nursery, theatre, ice rink, basketball courts...

To enable ease of access to different areas - the ship is divided into seven distinct ‘neighbourhoods’;-

The Coney Island:- Inspired Boardwalk on Harmony of the Seas features the Sabor Taqueria and Tequila Bar, a Boardwalk Dog House, Johnny Rockets and of course a Starbucks for casual eating, an arcade with classic carnival games like skeeball and an old-fashioned carousel. Then take it up a notch at the AquaTheater, where you’ll watch spectacular high-dive shows into the deepest pool at sea.

Central Park:- My favourite neighbourhood! A peaceful outdoor living space in the center of the ship which features a total of 10,587 plants, 48 vine plants and 52 trees, some over 20 feet.  Here you will find upscale restaurants including Jamie's Italian, Chops Grille and 150 Central Park, as well as the ship's wine bar Vintages, swanky shops and the Trellis Bar.

Entertainment Place:-This is the place to be for music, laughs and Broadway hit moments. After you’re done applauding, try your luck at the Vegas-style Casino Royale; From poker and blackjack to slots and roulette, the action stays hot. Entertainment Place will be home to The Attic Comedy Club and Jazz on 4.

Royal Promenade:- Its a lively spot - the perfect neighborhood for a pub hop. Be sure to check out the Bionic Bar, this is a cocktail bar where you order your drink from an iPad. Two robot bartenders will select the different ingredients, make your drink and serve it to you! The time spent in the Rising Tide Bar the world’s first moving bar at sea was truly interesting! -  you can enjoy a cocktail as the bar slowly moves between Central Park on deck eight and the Royal Promenade on deck five; interesting views all the way...

The Pool and Sports Zone;- Thrills galore - You’ll find four ginormous slides — five waterslides and one 10-story plunge — ready to take you for a spin. Join the other onboard adventurers at the rock climbing wall, zip lines and the exclusive FlowRiders.

Spa & Fitness:-

Visit the Vitality Spa and Fitness neighborhood to recharge your body, mind and spirit. Indulge in the refreshing scent of aromatherapy and the relaxation of full-body wellness throughout. The Fitness Centre offers guests a plentiful and varied selection of exercise machines including the latest cardio and resistance equipment for working out alone or for joining one of the several classes offered, such as spinning, kickboxing, Pilates and yoga.

Youth Zone:- The ship has an entire neighborhood dedicated to kids and teens. Kid's Avenue is a central boulevard connecting all the spaces dedicated to children. Areas include Royal Babies and Tots Nursery; a family crafts workshop; the arts studio Adventure Art; Adventure Science Lab; and Adventure Ocean Theater where kids can learn about theatrical productions, take part in talent shows and sign up for hip hop dance classes.

Teens will gravitate toward the back of Deck 15 where they'll find a teen-only hangout called the Living Room, a video arcade and the teen dance club.

Harmony has Voom, the fastest internet at sea where you can have a lightning fast connection!

Royal Caribbean also brought some of its most technologically experiences from Quantum of the Seas, like RFID WOWBands, to Harmony of the Seas. The RFID-enabled bracelets give passengers access to their cabins, and can be used for making onboard purchases and reservations. This is very convenient and handy...

Harmony has larger cabins than Oasis and Allure in some categories, and windowless "inside" cabins have been outfitted with Royal Caribbean's exclusive Virtual Balconies, which offer a real-time view of the outdoors.

From May 2016, Harmony of the Seas will sail from Barcelona and Rome, visiting such Mediterranean ports as Palma (Mallorca), Florence and Naples. In autumn 2016, Harmony will reposition to its permanent homeport of Port Everglades, sailing seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises for winter 2016/17.

There is so much more to say!..
