Maldives - Amanda's trip

Saturday 16 March 2019

Amanda  shares her experience and gives some tips from her holiday in the Maldives:-

It is as it says on the can ! Unrivalled luxury, an emerald jewel in the turquoise Maldivian waters with  acres of luxuriant vegetation as a backdrop to stunning white-sand beaches and an amazing underwater world.

We flew Dub/Dubai with two nights in Dubai and then to the Maldives. As a guest of the airline (the perks of being a travel consultant)! we were upgraded to Business class!  And yes, if one has unlimited funds it is worth it – loads of leg room, greeted with champagne, delicious dinner menu and supplied with a mattress and wash bag with all necessities. It was a daytime flight and the view of the islands was spectacular, absolutely surreal.

There are two options to get to your island of choice – seaplane or speed boat.  We opted for the speed boat and it took one hour approx. When we arrived in Kuramathi we were greeted with cold towels and such friendly service. Our accommodation was in a beach villa with an outside Jacuzzi and the crystal clear waters beach was less than 10 paces to chill out – pure paradise!

We also had the opportunity of viewing the different Villa categories. There are 348 Villas with 11 different categories to suit all Budgets - ranging from the Beach Villas to the Honeymoon Pool Villas which are designed for couples celebrating romance and also the 2 Bedroom Beach Houses which are ideal for families.

For water sport enthusiasts the Maldives boosts some of the best diving opportunities in the world.  A day trip shopping to Male where one can saunter down the Singapore Bazaar is interesting.

Kuramathi had lots to offer:-

Eco Centre

Sports Centre

Big Game Fishing

Speedboat Excursions

Catamaran Excursion with Captain

Windsurf lessons

Water Ski / Wakeboard

Island Hopping

Sunset cruises see enclosed picture – words inadequate to describe its beauty

There is also a medical center if needed

Sample the freshly caught delicious seafood specialists. There are 3 main buffer restaurants, 7 a la carte plus a private dining option, 6 Bars ( pool bar closes at 8pm)

Wifi is available on the island but not always the best at connecting

All rooms are air conditioned

Payment in euro, US Dollars or credit card is acceptable.

It is an ideal honeymoon destination to relax and enjoy the romance, however, it is quite and you are on an island so if you are not a water baby and do not partake of water sports or do not like lounging on a beach with a good book soaking up the sunshine then this is probably not the place for you! A good idea is to combine this with an activity/adventurous location e.g. Sri Lanka – this way you get the best of both worlds and perhaps a compromise for partners with different interests.
