“I’m happy to report that my inner child is still ageless”
Reflections on Rachael’s Orlando Walt Disney World fam trip
Hello! I’m Rachael and I had the pleasure of Travelling to Orlando and checking out Walt Disney World a couple of years ago and Yes! It reached all my expectations and beyond…
The following blog consists of a summary report on accommodation, Theme Parks and Tips for visiting Walt Disney World...
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
We stayed in this hotel. The name of the hotel is very self- explanatory. There were different blocks within the grounds called after Caribbean islands.
The Hotel was very functional and plenty of space for a family. My room
consisted of 2 double beds and a pull out single bunk, Flat screen TV,
Mini Fridge, coffee machine (must admit the coffee was really good). Free Wifi all
around the hotel including the bed rooms. No need for any adapters as
rooms actually had charging stations for smart phone/
camera or Ipad /Tablets from the USB station.
Breakfast was included and you could have anything from
waffles, omelettes, pan cakes or simple just have fruit. Staff were friendly and very quick in serving. However, I would imagine in peak season you may have to queue. The dining Old Port Royale Food Court was large enough. One has the choice to eat in or outside (I noticed there were limited spaces outside)
We were lucky enough to visit the following hotels in the Disney area, Each hotel had its own theme.
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
Firstly, the lobby is impressive! You get the warmest welcome from
everyone and they ensure that guests will have not only a comfortable stay
but an amazing experience. This hotel has a real African feel to it. It has 4
savannahs covering 42 acres of land that has over 30 amazing species of
wildlife. I recommend upgrading to a savannah view room as you will experience the
real safari here with fabulous views. I don't think
seeing Giraffes in your 'back garden' would ever get old!
The standard rooms will sleep up to 4 guests plus one infant in a cot. All
the rooms have 2 queen beds OR one queen bed and bunk beds or just one Kingbed.
Bus transport is available to other Walt Disney world resort locations
Disney's Polynesia Village Resort
The The moment I walked into this hotel I fell in love with it. We were
welcomed by this lovely lady Anake "Auntie" Kau'i Brandt, Anake has been a part of
the hotel for more than 30 years , she's a young 82 year old, an amazing lady
& everyone loved her. She presented us all with the most beautiful
colourful Hawaiian lei. Again the lobby area was very impressive with a warm welcoming atmosphere to it.
This hotel has a real relaxed feeling to it. Luau music playing in the
background, beautiful gardens for you to walk around. It has a heated
volcano pool & a luxurious beach area if you fancy a bit of sun bathing.
You have gorgeous views of Magic Kingdom just across the lake. Speaking of
the lake, it's fully stocked with soft white sand and hammocks, perfect for
watching the Disney fireworks show later in the evening/night.
The rooms can sleep up to 5 persons and an infant in a cot. Again the
rooms are similar in all Disney hotels.. 2 queen beds Or one queen bed with
a day bed.
Bus transport is available to other Walt Disney world resort locations
Disney's Art of Animation Resort
I loved this hotel. Out of all hotels I think children would be in total
awe of this place. (my inner child even came out) As you walk into the
lobby area you can’t but help being drawn to the fabulous art work of all
the Disney characters on the wall. This lobby was very bright spacious and
The hotel is themed on various different Disney movies such as Finding
Nemo, The little Mermaid, The Lion King. It is the newest Walt Disney
Hotel and already a big hit with families. I even noticed at the bus stop
in the parks there was always a bigger amount of people waiting for
transportation back to this hotel. We had lunch in this complex and to
say I was spoiled for choice is an understatement! The food court was very
spacious and clean. You could eat outside also but again I noticed
limited seating. Once again the staff were so friendly and very
efficient at what they do – this always adds to the enjoyment.
They have 3 heated swimming pool including an interactive water feature
which the kids will love. You and the children can watch a Disney movie
under the stars!! For those of you that like to do a bit of exercise on
holiday, this complex has a jogging trail within the grounds.
This hotel has 864 standard rooms which can sleep up to 4 guest plus an
infant in a cot but 1120 family suites can sleep up to 6 guests. I found
the rooms spacious , very colourful & functional
Alcoholic Drink: PLEASE remember it is essential that you carry photo ID (Passport) at all times as the legal age for consuming alcohol in Florida is 21.
Walt Disney World is a family resort so even thou you may be
legally over the age the bar staff still have the right to ask you for ID.
Disney's Hollywood Studios
It's time for Lights, Camera, Action! Where show business takes centre
stage, from thrilling attractions to on-stage live spectaculars and exciting
backstage action. An amazing line up of attractions presents the glamour and
excitement of showbiz from every angle.
Rock N Roller Coaster was brilliant, one minute you're singing along with
Aerosmith, then all of a sudden you're screaming! Fantastic roller
coaster, wanted to do it again and again. I think adults probably get
more out of this ride - mainly coz of our age and we would know the songs!!
The Hollywood Tower of Terror was very exciting. I really didn't know what
to expect at first, I was a bit scared but once I was in there I LOVED IT.
Never laughed and screamed as much! Make you think twice about getting
into a Lift!! Both adults and Children would enjoy this attraction.
We Enjoyed the spectacular night time show: Fantasmic! a lavish musical
extravaganza in sight, sound and magic.
This really had the magical feel to it, you could hear a pin drop EVERYONE
had their eyes peeled to this show of Disney characters. Might be worth
trying to get a sit as early as possible in order to get a good view! Be
careful of the front seats coz you could get wet!!
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.
It was time to get wet and have some fun. When we arrived we were met and
brought to a lovely private area to enjoy this tropical paradise with
thrilling raft slides, lazy river, golden beaches and one of the world's
largest wave pools containing waves of up to 6ft! I didn't think I'd like
this place but after experiencing some of the slides I have to admit I loved
it. I certainly build up an appetite after running around this park.
There was plenty of areas to sit back relax and sunbath if you didn't feel
like doing any of the slides. Word of warning don't forget your swimsuit
thou coz if you have to buy one on site I thought they were quite expensive.
You can rent a towel locally or just bring your own if you wish.
Epcot is double the size of Disney's Magic Kingdom Theme Park, so there is
plenty to explore including high tech fun and Disney Imagination. I wasn't sure
if I'd like Epcot but we had a fabulous day there! The food festival was
brilliant you got to taste different food from different countries all
around the world. The rides were excellent too. We experienced the
wonder of two distinct worlds, Future World and World Showcase. One
experience unlike any other!
We also got to watch the amazing IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, an
inspirational night-time spectacular. This live pyrotechnic show brings
together the past, present and future of our planet and its colourful
nations. The breath taking fireworks and the mesmerising laser light effects
are played nightly for all to enjoy.. Again give yourself plenty of time to
get a good area to watch this because the park can get very busy.
Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
To start our day off we had delicious private breakfast here with a VIP
guest...the one and only Mini Mouse. We were like little children when she
arrived into our private dining area. Mini certainly didn't disappoint us.
She took time out of her busy schedule to take some photos with us.
From there we took a walk around the park and soaked up the atmosphere,
everywhere you looked people were smiling and laughing. This is the largest
of the 4 theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort and it is here you
will experience a diverse mix of cultures, lush landscapes, west-end style
shows, thrilling attractions and close encounters with exotic animals. I
was amazed to see what animals were onsite. I honestly felt like I was on a
safari. It shows you how well Disney have worked on this to make you feel
that experience. Highly recommend this for families. I'm certain Children
would love this experience.
Disney Springs is an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment complex at
the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida
We had dinner at the amazing Boat House, this is an incredible, culinary
signature dining experience. The food was amazing, the setting was for me
something you would see in a movies. Staff again - so friendly and polite.
I would most defiantly recommend this restaurant. There are various other
restaurant to choose from within Disney springs so you are spoiled for
There are also a number of bars in here. Needless to say we had to check out
a few of them. Bars here from all around the world but our group of 18 ended up
in the Irish bar Raglan Road for a few jigs n reels. Great bar and lovely
friendly staff. Again all the bars had a theme. Majority of the bars had
live entertainment inside or outside the premises.
We went to see Cirque du Soleil La Nouba One word "Wow" ... You enter
a world of the extraordinary where guests of all ages will be mesmerized by
a spectacle that makes the impossible, possible! I loved this show. There
was so much going on from every angle of the stage you were forever
Disney's Magic Kingdom Park
Yahoo.. Save the best till last. There are 40 magical attractions to
enjoy which make exciting adventures and timeless classics just a smile
Disney characters are all over the place. and of course you are forever on
the lookout for the main man himself...Mickey Mouse! The minute you walk
into the park you see the breathtaking Disney Castle and everyone is snap
happy taking their photos & selfies in front of it.
During the day you will see the parade with the characters all strutting
their stuff. they dance and sing songs and of course encourage both adults
and children to see along.. The night time parade of glowing, spinning,
gliding floats filled with beloved Disney characters and dancers is
amazing so soooo magical!
I got to meet the fearless Anna & the beautiful snow Queen Elsa from Frozen
who were delightful.. Then without waiting too long I eventually got to meet
Mickey Mouse. He too was very pleasant and enjoyed getting his picture
taken. He even spoke Irish to me which made my day!! He gave me a big
kiss and hug and sent his love best wishes to all over in Ireland.
We ended our day with the most spectacular firework display I have ever
witnessed. It was truly amazing and something I know I will always cherish.
Wishes come true as the voices of beloved Disney characters narrate this
spectacular fireworks show and keep an eye out for Tinker Bell when she
takes flight over the park during the show! We ended our trip on a high.
You could go to Magic Kingdom ten times and you'll still find that magical
experience. Because there are so many attractions you need to plan your
day, you need to know which rides and attractions are not to be missed, and
which rides you can probably skip. This of course is down to personal
choice so do your research.
It was time to say goodbye to Disney Orlando, we checked out of our hotel
with heavy hearts to make our way back to reality! We boarded the Disney
Magical Express bus back to the airport. This was no Ordinary bus - should
have known when it was Disney related it was going to be entertaining.
The extremely witty bus driver had us laughing and smiling all the way back
to Orlando International Airport, what other way would you End your trip.
